Research on the Interaction Capability and Microscopic Interfacial Mechanism between Asphalt-Binder and Steel Slag Aggregate-Filler

To explore the applicability of steel slag porous asphalt mixture, interaction capability and microscopic interfacial mechanism between asphalt-binder aggregate-filler were investigated in this laboratory study. These objectives accomplished by comparing analyzing differences basalt aggregates interacting with asphalt-binder. The study methodology involved preparing mortar to evaluate penetration, ductility, softening point, toughness, tenacity. Thereafter, was characterized using parameters obtained from dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) testing. For studying functional groups chemical bonding mortar, Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer used, whilst analyzed scanning electron microscope (SEM). corresponding test results indicated that physical rheological properties two mortars similar. However, FTIR analysis domination through reactions, exhibited superiority over aggregates, pronounced adsorption peaks appearing spectrum. On other hand, SEM revealed that, compared basalt, micro-interfacial phases more continuous uniform, which could potentially enhance bond strength (filler).
